Unreliable Narrators

Unreliable Narrators uses prompts generated from Gareth’s childhood memories in the 1970s, the project explores the potential for AI generation and its ability to deliver specific aesthetics and imagery through text-based input. The images will be further developed through a series of a devised and repeatable processes involving analogue collage, digital manipulation and AI processing.

Sample of 200 AI images generated images by DALL.E by prompts based on descriptions of childhood memories. Prompts were specifically engineered to explore mood, colour palette, texture and historical setting rather than relying on photorealism. Full stream also on Instagram here.

Unreliable narrators: The past inside the present (digital paintings)

75 images selected and developed from the AI images created by DALL.E. These have been further processed through a repeatable, rules based methodology on Procreate to develop them into a textured, illustrative outcome. These were then further selected to create an short film using AI processing and frame interpolation.

AI generated frame interpolation short film made from 75 digital paintings of DALL.E image outputs. Narration describes the memories the images were originally based on thus bringing the process full circle.
